How do I avoid deleting the bird songs from my pre-loaded iPod?

There are four ways to avoid deleting your birdJam bird songs and photos from your iPod:

  • Don’t install iTunes on your computer.  You can simply plug your iPod into the computer with the USB cable to recharge it.  If you don't have iTunes installed, you won't be asked whether you want to erase, sync or update your iPod.

  • Recharge your iPod by using an iPod connector to plug it into a wall socket or car charger.  You don't ever need to plug your preloaded iPod into a computer unless you want to update it or add more content.

  • Load additional content using Manual Mode.  To do this, create playlists of content you wish to add (such as a Music playlist), and then manually drag-and-drop the playlist onto birdJam under Devices in the left-hand column in iTunes.  Once the download is complete, click the Eject icon next to birdJam under Devices, unplug your iPod and go. Just be careful not to agree to have iTunes erase and sync your birdJam iPod or you could lose all the bird songs and photos that we loaded for you.

  • Load the Stokes Field Guide to Bird Songs CDs, Eastern and/or Western Region, into iTunes and then run birdJam Maker to format and organize them.  The installation instructions are on the birdJam Maker CD.  Then, when iTunes syncs with your iPod, the birdJam bird songs and photos also will get synced.
