How to Get birdJam to Work on a Creative Zen Player

Sorry, but we can't support this, however, here are notes from a birdJam user on how to get birdJam to work on the Creative Zen:

----------

In case it's useful, below are the steps to get birdJam onto a Creative Zen using Windows XP. (One really does need to import using the AAC encoder and then convert; otherwise you get two sets of mp3 files that look identical).

1. Follow all the instructions for importing Stokes Bird Songs into iTunes, using the AAC encoder for importing the files.

2. Follow all the instructions for setting up and running birdJam EXCEPT: where there is a choice of options for what appears on "iPod Line #2 (Artist)" select "do not update." Where there is a choice of options for "iPod Line 3 (Album)," select Common Name. [I found these choices to be optimal, because the Zen will reverse the order of the lines and these choices will make for the easiest searching on the Zen. The downside is that you won't have the birds' scientific names on the Zen, but they are still in iTunes.]

3. In iTunes, highlight all the birdsong tracks in the main library window and then select "convert selection to MP3" from the Advanced menu. iTunes will create MP3 files of the edited (by birdJam) AAC tracks, so now there will be 2 copies of each track. Sort them so all the AAC files are together and all the MP3 files are together.

4. In "My Documents/My Music/" make a new folder, calling it something like "Stokes BirdSongs" or "birdJam songs".

5. From iTunes, select all the MP3 song tracks. Copy them by selecting "Edit" and then "copy."

6. Paste the tracks into the new folder created in step #4.

7. Transfer the tracks from this new folder into the "music" folder on the Creative Zen. I did this using the Creative MediaSource software.

Unfortunately I haven't found any automatic way of bringing in the playlists, but as your earlier correspondent noted, these can be manually recreated.
